ANS Trip 2016: Dallin in Scotland and London

Early in 2016 it was announced that American Name Services would be giving a “bonus” to each member of the ANS team for meeting our 2015 sales goal. The bonus was to be used to fund an ANS trip for each employee and a guest.  Over the next several months, we will give a brief summary of where our employees have ventured.

Dallin is part of our data processing team and was the first to take his trip. He and his wife went to Scotland and London where they spent 10 days in country, 6 in Scotland and 4 in London.

Here’s what Dallin had to say about his trip: We rented a car while in Scotland, which ended up being a tiny baby blue Fiat. I tried really hard not to feel emasculated driving around. Driving was hectic the first day being on the other side of the road, on the other side of the car and shifting with my other hand, but I only got honked at twice. I’m still proud of that. Once we were out in the countryside things got much easier.

The first day was spent in Glasgow and East Kilbride, where some of my ancestors lived. We went to the site of Calderwood Castle that was destroyed during WWII. We also saw the Necropolis and swore trying to find parking.ANS Trip, Dallin, Scotland & London

Next we  took a ferry to the Isle of Sky. We spent three days there, where the roads were single-lane, littered with passing spots. When oncoming traffic showed up whoever was closer to the passing spot would flash their headlights indicating that they would pull off. We saw a lot of sheep and Scottish highland cows. We mostly spent our time viewing the countryside and hiking. On one hike, I swam in glacier runoff water at the Fairy Pools.

Then we drove down to Edinburgh and saw the Scottish Royal Jewels, the Rosslyn Chapel that was in The Da Vinci Code, went on a ghost tour, and many other things.

Finally, we ditched the car and flew to London. It took two attempts to land because the cloud cover was very low. We saw the Crown Jewels, Tower of London, the Tower Bridge, and Shakespeare’s globe. We also attended a ballet at the Royal Theater and took a boat tour in little Italy.
