A Letter to Small Business Owners: Social Media Marketing

Dear small business owner,

Congratulations on opening your own business! I commend you for going after your dreams. American Name Services is a small business that started with a dream when Jill Grammer-Williams started selling quality leads with her sisters from the kitchen of her apartment. We’ve since moved to our corporate office in Orem, UT, but we’re still dreaming, innovating, and growing.

We love partnering with small businesses and watching their stories unfold as we give them the marketing tools they need to grow and reach their dreams. One such tool is actively marketing and engaging with customers on social media. But where do you start?

Marketing on social media can be an overwhelming idea. Which platforms should you use? How often should you post? Do you really have to pay for advertising on social?

There are lots of questions to be answered, but the best advice is to start small. You’re not going to conquer it all in one day, or even one year. Here are three basic tips to get started:

1. Keep a record of customer data

Name, address, email, phone, purchase history, etc. Keep it organized in a clean spreadsheet. This data can be uploaded to Facebook and other social media platforms to create a “target audience,” helping you re-target your current customers and find worthy prospects.

2. Claim your business name on all platforms

Even if you won’t be posting right away. Try to keep your user names/handles the same so it’s easier to find you.

3. Start posting and experimenting

Start with one or two platforms, even if it’s just once or twice a week. Remember that quality outweighs quantity, so use quality images or videos!

For owners of small businesses, time and resources are often limited. Social media marketing may not be one of your top priorities, but it should be! People are talking about you on social anyway, so why not join the conversation!? If your team doesn’t have the time or knowledge necessary for managing social media, give me a call. I’d love to chat with you about training your current team to manage your own social media, or we can manage it for you at a lower cost than paying a social media manager’s salary.

Send an email to lindseyl@a-names.com or call me at 1-800-434-1851. Let’s get that dream rolling!

Sincerely,

Lindsey
